WINTER PARK, Fla.
– The Eckerd College volleyball team finds itself streaking at just the right moment in the season after picking up a key road win over Rollins College at the Harold and Ted Alfond Sports Center on Saturday, 3-1 (25-23, 23-25, 25-18, 25-23).

The Tritons (17-9, 8-5 SSC) split regular season Sunshine State Conference matches against the Tars, (20-7, 7-5 SSC), who came into the afternoon ranked fifth in the NCAA South Region rankings.

Since the first edition of the regional rankings was released, the Tritons have also toppled No. 2 Florida Southern College, while opening up with a No. 7 rating of their own to make a push for the NCAA Championship South Regional for the seventh time in eight years.

With the win, the Eckerd holds solid positioning in the conference standings with a chance to slide into second place down by just a half game to Florida Southern.

Since statistics archived through 2005, the Tritons also broke the school record for blocks in a single match with 23. The previous team record on file was 19 against Palm Beach Atlantic University tallied in the 2009 campaign.

Junior middle Katarina Milojevic collected 10 kills and totaled five block solos and six block assists, while junior middle Grace Jones tallied seven kills, four block solos and seven block assists.

In the first set, the Tritons took the lead early on, but Rollins fought from behind to tie it up at multiple points throughout the game.

With Eckerd leading 23-20, the Tars took three straight points to tie the set at 23-23. But the game would not remain tied for long after a big block from senior Ana de Olano and Milojevic gave the Tritons the lead and the momentum to close out the set.

Entering the second set, the Tritons trailed the Tars early on, but at 15-14, Eckerd took its first lead of the second set courtesy of a four-point rally.

Both teams continued to battle point-for-point, but with the score tied at 22-22, Rollins was able to pull out the set thanks to two kills from Jessica Wilson and an Eckerd attacking error.

The third set was a game of point streaks with Eckerd taking a 7-2 lead after winning six straight points, causing a Rollins timeout. However, Rollins responded with a seven-point streak of its own to move ahead, 10-8, and invoke an Eckerd timeout.

Later in the set, Eckerd went on a 6-1 run to take a 20-16 lead that it would not surrender, and the Tritons closed the set in a fitting fashion: a block from Jones.

To close out the match, the Tritons battled from a 9-3 deficit in the fourth set. With the game tied 18-18, a Rollins attacking error gave Eckerd the lead. Two kills from Lindsay Biggs, one from Ali McAlvany and three Rollins errors gave Eckerd the win, 25-23.

Biggs (12 kills, 17 digs), McAlvany (16 kills, 17 digs) and Madison Burr (23 assists, 11 digs) each posted double-doubles.

The Tritons return home this Friday, Nov. 15, to face Barry University in a match set to begin at 7 p.m. EST from the McArthur Center.
