ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – For the first time in school history, the Eckerd College volleyball team walked away with a sweep over Florida Southern College on Wednesday night in the McArthur Center, taking the match in straight sets, 3-0 (25-22, 27-25, 25-22).
With the win, Eckerd (8-3, 2-1 SSC) snapped Florida Southern's (10-4, 3-1 SSC) seven-match win streak and handed the Mocs their first Sunshine State Conference loss of the season.
The Tritons have accounted for three of the program's wins (from seven total all-time) against the Mocs in the past three seasons, but tonight's decision represented the first sweep in the series history spanning 83 total meetings.
"This was a huge team win," EC Head Coach
Michelle Piantadosi said. "Our girls truly competed. Our leaders -- Lindsay (Biggs) and Kaleigh (Humphrey) -- were huge. They did an excellent job of keeping the team moving forward and ready to respond when they [Florida Southern] made a play."
Senior
Lindsay Biggs not only served as a vocal leader on the court, but also by her performance. Biggs notched a team-high 13 kills in the win and finished with a .293 attacking percentage. She also collected a season-high 24 digs as well as three service aces.
Sophomore
Tjasa Kotnik put on a stellar showing. Kotnik was 7-for-17 (.294) in hitting and helped to contain Florida Southern's outside hitters with three block assists and one solo block.
The Mocs hit just .179 on the night as outside hitter Kate Stromberg led her team with 11 kills and Kayshia Brady contributed 10.
Junior
Grace Jones' offense continued to impress as she was 9-for-20 (.350) in hitting, and junior
Katarina Milojevic added six kills and four block assists.

Emily Schadow set up the offense for success. Burr collected 25 assists, while sophomore
Emily Schadow added 18 assists and 11 digs.
"We're going to enjoy this win, but we're looking forward to Rollins," Piantadosi said. "We want to bring this same competitiveness on Friday."
Eckerd continues its current five-match homestand on Friday, Oct. 4, when it takes on Rollins College.

The EC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is promoting a "whiteout" night in the gym when the Tritons take on the Tars while asking students to bring one article of clothing to donate to Clothes to Kids, a non-profit partnering organization in St. Petersburg.
