BOCA RATON, Fla.  – The Eckerd College women's soccer team dropped a closely-contested Sunshine State Conference match on the road at Lynn University on Wednesday afternoon, 2-1.

Eckerd (7-5, 1-2 SSC) and Lynn (3-5-3, 1-1-2 SSC) battled throughout the first half of play, holding each other scoreless through the first 45 minutes.

Lynn outshot Eckerd nine to three in the first half with five shots on goal, but shots on goal from EC sophomore Devon Morse and junior Arie Anahory kept the Tritons in contention.

In the 50th minute, senior defender Paige Meggison put the Fighting Knights on the board when she was on the receiving end of a free kick in the box.

EC goalkeeper Morgan Crescent attempted to stop the free kick but a cluttered group of players blocked her path, and Meggison was able to knock in the goal.

In the 54th minute, Lynn padded its lead when a cross deflected off of an Eckerd defender for an own goal.

In the 75th minute, Anahory made the defensive play of the game for Eckerd when she blocked a shot by Lynn's Jordyn Turner into the left corner of the Tritons' goal, preventing Lynn from striking again.

The Tritons' relentless offensive efforts finally paid off in the 89th minute when they notched its first goal to cut Lynn's lead to one in the last minute of regulation.

Sophomore Rae Antenucci headed in her first goal of the season off of a cross from junior Danielle Cook on a beautiful set piece as the ball sailed into the box. The assist was Cook's second on the year.

Cook had one final look on goal in a bid to tie in the final seconds as Lynn goalkeeper Meghan Dolan briefly charged out of the box to leave the net unattended, but the hard shot skipped just wide left as time expired.

The Fighting Knights outshot the Tritons 23 to five on the day, but Crescent tabbed 10 saves to tie her season-best effort.

Eckerd returns back home at the Turley Athletic Complex this Saturday in another conference contest against No. 13 University of Tampa. The match is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. EST.
