Women’s Soccer Posts Shutout in Season Opener Against Florida College, 4-0

Box Score

TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla.
– The Eckerd College women's soccer program made a living in the opposition's defensive backfield in its season opener, cruising to a shutout victory against Florida College on Tuesday evening, 4-0.

Freshman Rachel Price scored a pair of goals in her collegiate debut, senior Dana Treat assisted two scores and a myriad of freshmen made a considerable impact in their collegiate debuts at Qualls Field.

The Tritons (1-0, 0-0 SSC) held a 25-1 advantage in the shot department against the Falcons (1-2-1 overall), who allowed a pair of goals in each half.

Eckerd's third-year Head Coach Danielle Fotopoulos showcased eight newcomers in the starting lineup to kick off the fall -- including seven freshmen.

Abbey Walter was among the wave of freshmen to make her presence felt early, pushing the first goal of the season past Falcons' netminder Jasmin Jacobs in the 10th minute.

Jacobs recorded eight saves in the losing effort.

The relentless Eckerd offensive attack struck again as Price, a heralded rookie who played on the U-18 U.S. National Team, cashed in six minutes later on a feed from sophomore Arie Anahory that left Jacobs flat footed in goal.

Price had the coveted hat trick wiped out by an offsides call in the second half along with several other powerful shots that sailed just wide.

The Tritons once again controlled possession out of the intermission and Price scored her second goal of the match at the 60:12 mark on another precise pass from Treat.

A freshman connection converted in the late stages as Melissa Madison and Lauren Monce worked the left side of the field for the fourth and final goal in the 81st minute.

Walter was credited with the game-winning goal, the first of her career.

EC sophomore goalkeeper Morgan Crescent made one save in the shutout effort, withstanding a violent collision on the outside of the box that resulted in FC's lone shot on the evening.

Eckerd moved to 2-0 all-time against the Falcons in the series history after winning last year's non-conference clash, also in Temple Terrace.

Next on the docket for the Tritons is their home debut on Saturday against Johnson & Wales (Fla.) University at the Turley Athletic Complex. The match is set to begin at 6 p.m.
