Box Score
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd College volleyball program remained unbeaten in Sunshine State Conference play with a convincing home-court victory against Saint Leo University on Friday night, 3-1 (25-17, 22-25, 25-17, 25-22).
The Tritons (9-5, 3-0 SSC) successfully bounced back after suffering a five-set defeat on the road against Palm Beach Atlantic University on Wednesday.
EC is now the only undefeated team in the SSC standings along with No. 7 University of Tampa. UT handed Florida Southern College, the Tritons' opponent on Saturday, its first loss in the SSC schedule this evening.
Eckerd defeated Saint Leo for the third time in a sport this week (men's and women's soccer) to leave the Lions (6-5, 0-3 SSC) still in search of their first win in league play.
Junior All-American outside hitter
Lindsay Biggs progressively dismantled the Saint Leo defense as the night wore on, matching a season-high 20 kills to go with 11 digs.
Biggs also spiked down 20 kills in EC's season opener against Minnesota State University-Moorhead.
Biggs and sophomore right-side hitter
Ali McAlvany were a tough combo to stop as each attacked to the tune of .378 and .324, respectively.
McAlvany recorded 17 kills to complement another double-double effort with 11 digs.
The Tritons picked up some timely blocks at critical points, including a solo block by senior middle and current SSC Defensive Player of the Week,
Olivia Fraser.
Fraser stopped Meghan Donovan at the net to give the Tritons a 23-19 edge as the window of opportunity for a Saint Leo comeback dwindled. She finished with 12 kills and was a driving offensive force by hitting over a .400 clip.
Senior middle
Alex Laton keyed a 9-1 run in the first set with three kills as EC broke open an 11-11 tie to control momentum.
Even though Saint Leo would tie the match in the following stanza, the Tritons methodically pulled away in the third frame and never relinquished the lead after seizing an 8-7 lead off an assisted block.
A trio of unforced errors helped EC's cause to break a 15-15 tie in what turned out to be a final set. Included in a 4-0 Triton run was a Saint Leo service error, attacking error and a setting miscue.
Junior
Madison Burr collected 34 more assists. The setter is closing in on seventh place all-time in the EC record books in career assists.
Junior libero
Kaleigh Humphrey added 13 digs to lead four Tritons in double-digit figures.
The Tritons will travel to Lakeland tomorrow to square off against the Mocs from Florida Southern in the Jenkins Field House to close the month of September.
EC and FSC will get underway at 4 p.m.
