ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. –
The Eckerd College coed sailing program dotted its presence up-and-down the East Coast over another busy weekend, competing in Medford, Mass., Charleston, S.C., and more locally, the University of South Florida.

The Tritons sent representatives to the Hood Trophy, the SAISA Men's Singlehanded District Championships and South Points #3 spanning Saturday and Sunday.

EC Head Coach Kevin Reali traveled with the team to the Hood Trophy in Massachusetts and assistant coach Zack Marks accompanied several more student-athletes to singlehanded districts.

The Tritons finished 13th of 19 at the Hood Trophy while managing an eighth and 11th-place showing in South Carolina.

South Points #3 was another single-day event in Tampa as Eckerd placed third in the nine-team field under the direction of new assistant coach Alex Boudreau.

The Tritons have fared well in the South Points series this fall, earning runner-up honors the weekend prior in Winter Park.

“The Hood Trophy was a very competitive event on a small lake,” Reali said. “It's a unique venue with boats that no one on our team had ever sailed before. We learned and accomplished a lot; there was a deeper fleet competing and we put together a good showing.”

Joining Reali in Medford were a handful of veteran returners in senior Wes Byrne, senior Emily Mitchell, sophomore Tony Collins and junior Colleen McClung.

Freshmen Tim Siemers and Samuel Scales continued their fall seasoning at the singlehanded district championships.

“Tim and Sam learned a lot this weekend,” Reali said. “This is the kind of experience that will help for the next year and beyond.”

Boudreau, who sailed collegiately at Roger Williams (R.I.) University, remained close at USF as senior Amy Baxter, sophomore Amy Williamson, and freshmen Ben Chafee and Rachel Rice ventured on the open seas.

“It was a smaller event and both divisions sailed together,” Reali continued. “It was good practice, but we'd really like to win the South Points events. We have been consistent though.”

Next on the docket this weekend for the coed team is South Points #4 in Gainesville, while the women's program competes at the SAISA Singlehanded Championships and Fall Districts, with both respective regattas held in Miami.
