Florida Blue SSC Championship First-Day Results
BRADENTON, Fla. – The Eckerd College women's golf program fearlessly trekked the challenging course layout presented by The Concession Golf Club on Monday, wrapping up two rounds to begin the Florida Blue Sunshine State Conference Tournament.
The Tritons carded a 409 in their first round of play, but after completing the day with just three scores recorded due to an unforeseen illness, will complete the remainder of the tournament as disqualified.
Lynn University (310-306--616) leads the team standings by an 11-shot differential over Florida Southern College (311-316--627).
“The golf course played extremely difficult,” EC Head Coach
Bill Buttner said. “The green speeds were over the edge and neutralized any advantage a player would have. For the women, it's very hard to have a successful short game.”
“This is more about experience by taking on the hardest golf course they've played in their life,” he continued. “Every hole is a potential double-digit score. If you have the experience, you don't do that.”
Senior
Georgia Gordon forged the course for a 96 to open the day, but withdrew from the tournament, joining teammate
Whitney Edwards with a WD on the card. There is still a chance Gordon and Edwards will compete individually for tomorrow's final round.
Sophomore
Mara Shingleton (90-96) is leading the way and is tied for 36th in the field.
Jenee Vanderstyne had 11 strokes of improvement to head into the clubhouse with a second-round score of 97 and
Christina Brewster saved her best for last with a 113.
The final round will be played out tomorrow with live scoring being conducted on
