TAMPA, Fla.
– The offense was stagnant as the Eckerd College softball program was blanked by eighth-ranked University of Tampa in Saturday's doubleheader at Naimoli Family Stadium by scores of 7-0 and 8-0 (5 innings).

Spartans ace Deanna Henriott racked up her 20th win of the season in the finale, following up a 14-strikeout one-hit shutout tossed by Kayla Cox in game one.

Tampa claimed the three-game Sunshine State Conference series after also taking Friday night's contest by a 6-0 score.

Senior Alex Sasso broke up the no-hit bid by Cox with just one out to go in the opener with a double to center field in the seventh inning, extending her hit streak to five games.

The Spartans scored in five out of the six innings they batted in, scoring a pair of runs in both the second and fifth frames. UT scored seven runs on seven hits and only one came in extra-base fashion, a double from Megan Paul.

EC committed three errors but only one earned run was affected in the final box score.

Whitney Bernier went five innings on the mound while Logan Rohrbach pitched the sixth in relief.

Tampa poured it on late in game two to complete the twinbill sweep, tallying five runs in the bottom of the fourth.

After recording just one extra-base hit in the opener, the Spartans rode the longball en route to eight runs on eight hits to back Henriott.

Catcher Becky Vyzas had just one official at-bat, but recorded five RBI, including a grand slam home run in the pivotal fourth. Stacy Pignano made it back-to-back with a solo shot in the same inning and third baseman Susan Jallo went yard in the third.
Jallo went 2-for-2 with three runs scored as the table setter for the Tampa offense.

The Tritons began the game with back-to-back base hits off the bats of Chelsea Jeffares and Brittany Mitchell, but Henriott was able to escape trouble with two strikeouts and a lineout to end the first inning.

Emily Wiemken doubled in the second inning and Sarah Agnew singled in the fourth.

The Tritons will be back in action next week to host Saint Leo University beginning on Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Turley Athletic Complex. Live stats with live video/audio will be streamed on EckerdTritons.com.
