EC vs. Palm Beach Atlantic (Game 1)

EC vs. Palm Beach Atlantic (Game 2)

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -
Palm Beach Atlantic University sophomore first basemen Camille Benito went 5-for-6 with a grand slam, scored four runs and drove in six, to lead the Sailfish to a two-game sweep over the Eckerd College softball team on Monday, 11-1 (5 innings) and 8-0.

While the Tritons (7-16, 0-0) had eight hits in the game-one loss, EC could only bring one run home in the finale, leaving eight runners on the base path.

Senior Alex Sasso singled to left field to the bottom of the eighth inning to start things off for EC. Senior Kristen Schurr was credited with the lone RBI on the night for the Tritons, as she hit a sacrifice fly to left field to bring in Sasso.

Sophomore pitcher Kaitlyn Dougherty was tagged for seven earned runs in the first two innings in a tough start. While Dougherty only allowed two hits in the opening frame, the sophomore allowed six runs in the second inning after a string of PBA singles and a Benito grand slam.

Freshman Brittany Mitchell came in for relief in the second inning, but could not slow down Palm Beach Atlantic's onslaught. Mitchell allowed all three of her earned runs in the third inning as PBA junior Kara Anderson hit a triple to bring in two runs and junior Lisa Santos drove in the third run with a single back up the middle of the field.

Palm Beach Atlantic (17-10, 0-0) kept the hits coming in the second game, scoring eight runs off of 12 hits. Senior pitcher Lauren Bubeck went seven innings and allowed only four hits and no earned runs for the Sailfish in the nightcap.

PBA struck early in game two as sophomore Lauren Powell drove in Benito with a single up the middle in the second inning. Then, in the third inning, two Sailfish home runs drove in three runs to push the lead to four.

Sophomore Whitney Bernier was charged with the loss after allowing six hits and four earned runs. Senior Alex Sasso came in during the third inning, but could not hold off PBA's offensive attack as she allowed three earned runs off of six hits.

The Tritons will play host to Webber International University for a doubleheader this Wednesday, March 7th at 5 p.m. Live video/audio and stats will be available on eckerdtritons.com.
