CLEARWATER, Fla. – Fifteen teams will convene over nine different diamonds at the Eddie C. Moore Complex from Friday-Sunday as the Eckerd College Spring Invitational presented by 3N2 gets underway tomorrow afternoon.
The host Tritons (2-0, 0-0 SSC) will put their early unblemished season record on the line tomorrow afternoon against Georgia College & State University with a 3 p.m. start on field five. Shortly after, Eckerd will face off against Sunshine State Conference counterpart Lynn University around 5:30 p.m. on the same diamond.
In addition to the presence of Lynn, six more SSC schools will be competing including Barry University, Florida Southern College, Florida Tech, Nova Southeastern University, Saint Leo University and the University of Tampa.
Additional games for Eckerd in the seventh annual event are scheduled against Colorado Christian University (Saturday - 1:30 p.m.), Lindenwood (Mo.) University (Sunday - 9 a.m.) and Palm Beach Atlantic University (Sunday - 11:30 a.m.).
“We want to thank 3N2 as one of our title sponsors along with WP Sports Consulting and the city of Clearwater with the Visitor's Bureau for their support,” Eckerd Head Coach
Josh Beauregard said. “We're excited to have the most teams we've had in the tournament's history this year. This is a stepping stone in hopes that we can turn this event into a premier Division II Tournament.”
The Tritons took care of business in their home opener, sweeping a season-opening doubleheader against Ave Maria University.
“This is a big weekend for our team to set the tone for the season,” Beauregard continued. “When you have to play five games in one weekend, it can be pivotal, but we have a schedule conducive to winning games.”
