SAINT LEO, Fla.
– The Eckerd College men's and women's tennis programs were dealt respective shutout defeats on the road against Saint Leo University on Tuesday afternoon, falling by 9-0 decisions in both matches.

The Tritons (0-2, 0-0 SSC) faced off against the Lions' nationally-ranked No. 18 (No. 6 regional) squad on the men's side. The Lions' women are ranked eighth in the regional rankings.

Both the EC men and women competed in their second event of the season after facing nationally ranked Barry University (No.4 women/No. 2 men) in its spring opener over the weekend.

“I'm proud of everybody because they showed a lot of improvement from our match against Barry (University),” EC assistant coach Ben Maxwell said. “There was a big difference in everyone's mentality (from Barry) and we had a couple of really close ones. Hopefully from now on, we're moving in the right direction.”

Brian Hill gave Alou Adjenak all he could handle and then some in the No. 2 singles battle. Hill captured the first set, 6-2, before ceding the second set and ultimately, a grueling tiebreaker that played out to a 10-8 score in score of Saint Leo.

Ben Levy and Madison Durley each scored four points in their first set against Tim Balz-Hermann and Yves Jacobs, respectively in the No. 5/6 singles draws. Dylan Randazzo, Stephen Felman and Connor Ohlsen also competed.

No. 6 singles freshman Erika Fridrik was the last one to vacate the courts in a gritty effort against Saint Leo's Caroline Ebner. The combination of Fridrik and Taylor Bullock made the No. 2 doubles a battle with a final 8-4 score.

Stephanie Jenks anchored the singles matchups playing No. 1, while Gipson Hawn, Carson Trapp, Amy Naula and Bullock, were singles participants.

The Tritons remain on the road for the next three duals, heading to Florida Tech this Saturday for another Sunshine State Conference showdown in Melbourne.
