ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.
– Making its final stand together in the regular-season home conclusion, the Eckerd College volleyball senior class contributed to another sweep, this time against Nova Southeastern University on Saturday afternoon, 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-14).

Playing in the final home game of their illustrious careers, seniors Alex Laton, Taylor Whaley and Olivia Fraser, were all recognized to celebrate their accomplishments. They were joined on the court by family, friends and coaches/teammates, while being presented with a framed jersey, plaque and other items.

As a team, the Tritons (21-7, 12-2 SSC) served up 11 aces as Nova Southeastern struggled from the onset with the serve receive.

Every active player on the EC roster was able to find playing time on the court and make valuable contributions.

Sophomore Ali McAlvany served up all three of her aces as part of a 5-0 run to begin the afternoon. Junior Lindsay Biggs added three aces of her own as the Eckerd offense was clicking on all cylinders.

Biggs moved into fifth all-time among career kill leaders, notching six more against the Sharks to give her 1,076 and officially pass Emily Johnson (1999-2001).

McAlvany paced the team with nine kills and a .533 attacking percentage as Eckerd extended its current win streak to 10 straight matches.

Sophomore middle Grace Jones drilled six kills on just seven swings while playing in two sets. She also served up a key ace to shut down the second set.

The Sharks (4-26, 1-13 SSC) hit .000 with 24 errors canceling 24 kills while the Tritons hit .312 and finished with 36 kills and only 11 errors. Samantha High paced her squad with seven kills in the match.

Fraser moved just one block shy of tying former EC two-sport phenom Sherry Howell (1989-1992) for the third-most blocks in school history. Laton tallied two blocks and is also closing in on Howell's defensive standard, trailing just a few behind Fraser's pace.

Laton's first kill of the afternoon marked No. 700 of her career while Whaley piled on to her accumulated totals 600 kills and 450 digs spanning four years.

Junior setter Madison Burr ran the tables with 24 assists while sophomore Katarina Milojevic was credited with four more blocks to her impressive season totals.

Other than the Sharks scoring the first point of the third set, EC led wire-to-wire, getting stronger as each set progressed.

The Tritons will finish out the regular season on the road playing at the University of Tampa on Wednesday and closing with Barry University on Friday in Miami Shores.
