Baseball Season Comes to an End at Tampa

 
TAMPA, Fla. – Shawn Pleffner had five hits and five RBIs to help No. 20 Tampa to a doubleheader sweep over the visiting Eckerd College baseball team in the Tritons' season finale on Sunday.

Pleffner went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs to lead the Spartans to a 14-11 win in the opener. The junior added two hits and two RBIs during a 12-2 victory in Game Two.
 
In the first game, Tampa (35-15, 16-8 Sunshine State Conference) hit four home runs -- including two from Andrew Jones. The first four hitters in the Spartan lineup combined for 10 hits, 11 RBIs and nine runs scored.
 
Junior Kevin Rea hit his first career home run for the Tritons (17-32, 5-19). Alex Del Monte had two hits, including an RBI double, while David Regidor reached base five times and scored two runs. Dan Capra had a two-run double in the ninth inning.
 
Wess Hollins and Joe McLemore also added two hits each.
 
After Tampa jumped out to a 6-1 lead thanks to a five-run second inning, Eckerd fought back to tie it with three runs in the third and two in the fourth.
 
But the Spartans answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth and three more in the fifth to regain control.
 
Eckerd grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the second inning of Game Two, but Tampa scored four runs in the bottom of the frame before adding two runs apiece in its final four at-bats.
