ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Florida Tech used two big innings to take a doubleheader sweep over the Eckerd College baseball team on Saturday at the Turley Athletic Complex.
The Panthers used a five-run sixth inning en route to a 10-7 win in the opener before scoring six runs in the second inning of a 7-2 win in the nightcap.
Gus Fernandez had three hits and four RBIs, while leadoff hitter Chris Fox scored four runs to pace Florida Tech (23-13, 7-8 Sunshine State Conference).
Randall Thompson (7-3) allowed just one earned run to get the victory in Game 2.
The Tritons (12-20, 1-11) took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning of Game 1 following an RBI single from
Kevin Rea. But the Panthers got back-to-back two-run doubles from Ryan McChesney and Jose Vazquez in the sixth to take a 4-1 lead, and Jimmie Koch added an RBI single to make it 5-1.
In the second game, Florida Tech jumped ahead 6-0 in the second – keyed by two-run singles from Fernandez and Fox.
McLemore had an RBI double in the second inning and an RBI single in the fourth.
The Tritons will wrap up a 10-game homestand at 7 p.m. on Wednesday against Webber International.
