Saint Leo's Bloomer Shuts Out Baseball

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Saint Leo left-hander Jeff Bloomer tossed a complete-game shutout to lift the visiting Lions to a 4-0 win over the Eckerd College baseball team on Friday evening at the Turley Athletic Complex.
 
Bloomer (1-0) gave up seven hits – all singles – and struck out three. The Lions (15-28, 4-15) gave the senior all the offense he needed in the first with two runs. Saint Leo added a run in the seventh and eighth innings.
 
Ryan Brnovich and Ryan Powers each had two hits for Saint Leo, with Brnovich scoring two runs. Dustin Brown went 1-for-4 with two RBIs.
 
Joey Cuda (4-5) took the loss for Eckerd (16-27, 4-15), though the right-hander allowed just one earned run in eight innings. The junior surrendered seven hits and struck out five.
 
Dan Capra and Wess Hollins each had two hits for the Tritons, while Alex Del Monte, Joe McLemore and Aaron Shapiro each recorded a hit.
 
The two teams will play a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Sunday. Eckerd will honor its five seniors: Hollins, Chris Ayral, Anthony Katchuk, J.W. Kilpatrick and Stephen Pelc prior to the games.
