SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Eckerd College softball team closed out the 2011 season with a doubleheader split at Saint Leo on Thursday. The Tritons took a 2-0 victory in the opener before falling 7-1 in the nightcap.
In Game One,
Kelly Coston drove in Eckerd's first run with a fourth-inning RBI single and later scored in the seventh on a throwing error.
Junior pitcher
Alex Sasso did the rest, scattering seven hits to pick up her first complete-game shutout of the year. The right-hander struck out two, bouncing back from a tough outing in Wednesday's 9-1 loss.
Freshman
Chelsea Jeffares went 1-for-3, stole a base and scored the game's first run.
In the finale, Eckerd (15-39, 3-21 Sunshine State Conference) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning, but Saint Leo (25-29, 9-15) used a four-run fourth to salvage the split.
