Eckerd-Webber International Box Score
BABSON PARK, Fla. – Shane McIntyre went 4-for-5 with two RBIs to help Webber International take an 8-7 win over the visiting Eckerd College baseball team on Wednesday evening.
The Warriors (30-22) scored three runs in the sixth inning to take a four-run lead and held off a late Eckerd rally. The win earned WIU a split in the four-game regular season series.
Wess Hollins had three hits, including an RBI single, for the Tritons (16-26).
Kevin Rea and
Stephen Pelc each added two hits and two RBIs for Eckerd, which tallied 14 hits overall.
The Tritons were down 8-4 going into the eighth inning before mounting a strong comeback.
Dan Capra's RBI single cut the lead to 8-5 before Rea added another run with an RBI sacrifice fly.
After reliever
Joe Clagg held WIU scoreless in the bottom of the frame, the Tritons loaded the bases with one out in the ninth after putting together three hits. Pelc made it 8-7 with an RBI sacrifice fly, but WIU's Matt Arnold escaped further damage by getting a flyout to end the game.
Eckerd will play its final home games of 2011 this weekend against Saint Leo. The two teams will kick off a three-game series at 7 p.m. on Friday at the Turley Athletic Complex. The squads will finish the series with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Sunday.
