BOCA RATON, Fla. – Eckerd College junior right-hander
Joey Cuda continued his brilliant 2011 season by leading the Tritons to a 2-1 win at Lynn on Friday.
Cuda (4-4) tossed his fifth complete game of the year and allowed just one unearned run to help Eckerd (16-23, 4-12 Sunshine State Conference) to its third league win in its last four outings.
The St. Petersburg native struck out eight and surrendered only four hits.
Wess Hollins scored on a wild pitch in the second inning, and
Stephen Pelc recorded a two-out RBI double in the fourth to provide all the offense Cuda needed.
Senior outfielder
Dan Capra went 3-for-4, and the Tritons had nine hits overall.
Andrew Virgili (6-5) took the loss for Lynn (22-19, 6-10).
Cuda, who entered the weekend ranked third in the SSC in earned run average and strikeouts, lowered his ERA to 1.55. It is the second straight year Cuda notched a complete-game victory against the Fighting Knights.
The two teams will wrap up the three-game series with a noon doubleheader on Saturday.
