LAKE WORTH, Fla. – The Eckerd College baseball team dropped a pair of one-run decisions at Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday.
The Sailfish (12-6) scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth to take a 6-5 win in the opener before T.J. Harbuck and Jimmy Kelly combined to allow six hits and no earned runs in a 2-1 victory in the nightcap.
Eckerd (8-6) tallied 12 hits in the first game, as David Regidor and Dan Capra combined for six hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. But, trailing 5-4 in the ninth, PBA's Travis Murray ripped a two-run double down the left-field line to cap the Sailfish rally.
Robbie Nabers (1-1) suffered the opening-game loss on the mound for Eckerd, and Jake Wilder (2-1) got the hard-luck loss in Game Two.
Wilder, who had not allowed a run in his first 15 1/3 innings of the year, surrendered just two runs while striking out three --- hurling his second straight complete game.
Harbuck (2-1), though, worked around six walks in five innings and gave up only one unearned run. Kelly tossed two scoreless innings to close it out.
Capra finished the day 4-for-8 with three stolen bases, and Regidor was 4-for-7. Alex Del Monte was 3-for-8 with a stolen base and a run scored.
The Tritons will play host to The Netherlands in a 7 p.m. exhibition game on Monday at the Turley Athletic Complex. All proceeds from the game will benefit the families of fallen St. Petersburg police officers David Crawford, Thomas Baitinger and Jeffery Yaslowitz.
