FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern used a nine-run third inning in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday to complete a weekend sweep over the visiting EckerdCollege softball team.
The Sharks (22-11, 4-5 Sunshine State Conference) won the first game 4-0 before rallying for an 11-2 victory in the finale. Katie Kelton went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Laura Saladrigas had a three-run triple in the second game.
In the opener, NSU scored two runs in the first on back-to-back RBI hits from Gina Bondarenko and Brittany Phillips. The Sharks added single runs in the third and fourth innings, while right-hander Lexi Sarradet (7-2) tossed a complete-game shutout.
In the second game, NSU took advantage of four Eckerd errors -- including three in the pivotal third inning – to overcome an early 2-0 deficit. Saladrigas provided the big hit with a bases-loaded triple.
