ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Barry scored 29 runs en route to a doubleheader sweep over the Eckerd College baseball team on Saturday at the Turley Athletic Complex.
The Buccaneers (17-8, 6-0 Sunshine State Conference) hit four home runs in a 20-4 win in the opener before scoring eight runs in the first inning of Game Two – helping Barry to a 9-5 victory in the nightcap.
Matt Petty went 5-for-10 with two home runs and five RBIs for the Bucs, who have started 2011 league play with six consecutive wins.
BU's Drew Dwelly went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in Game Two.
Wess Hollins hit a grand slam for Eckerd (10-9, 0-3) in the second game, helping the hosts cut an 8-1 deficit to 8-5. But the Bucs held the offense in check the rest of the way.
The Tritons' Alex Del Monte went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Eckerd had 16 hits overall.
The Tritons will host Clearwater Christian at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
