Eckerd-Southeastern Box Score
LAKELAND, Fla. – Southeastern scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to rally for a 6-4 win over the Eckerd College baseball team on Tuesday evening at Broer Stadium.
William Glessner had a key two-run single in the eighth, and starting pitcher Kyle Young (1-1) allowed just two runs in the first eight innings, as the Fire (6-4) avenged an extra-inning loss to Eckerd on Feb. 8.
Brandon DeRespiris went 2-for-5 for Southeastern, which had eight hits – including three in the eighth.
Phillip Kish got the final two outs to pick up his third save.
Dan Capra went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Eckerd (4-2). His two-run single helped spark a ninth-inning rally for the Tritons, who eventually put the potential tying run on second base before Kish escaped the jam.
Lost in the late-inning offense was another strong performance from Eckerd right-hander Joey Cuda. The junior went seven innings, allowing just five hits and one run while striking out six.
Cuda has given up just five earned runs in 30 innings this season (a 1.50 earned run average).
The Tritons will kick off a five-game homestand on Friday against Florida Memorial. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Turley Athletic Complex.
