ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd College softball team tallied 21 hits in splitting a doubleheader against Bowie State on Friday at the Turley Athletic Complex.
The Tritons had 14 hits en route to a 12-5 win in the opening game before struggling with four errors in a 7-5 loss in the nightcap.
Meagan Camp went 4-for-5 with three runs scored, while Kirsten Cox added four hits – including three doubles. Sarah Agnew and Kristen Schurr each had three hits.
Eckerd (1-1) had six stolen bases overall and saw nine different players record at least one hit.
Cox went 3-for-4 in the first game, with Kelly Coston adding two hits and two RBIs. Eckerd was down 2-0 in the second inning before erupting for six runs to take control.
The Tritons closed the game by scoring six runs over the final three innings.
In the second game, however, the Lady Bulldogs (1-1) broke a 1-1 tie with six runs in the fifth inning – highlighted by a three-run home run – to grab a 7-1 advantage.
Eckerd attempted to rally with four runs in its final at-bat but came up just short.
The Tritons will play a doubleheader on Saturday at home against Warner. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
