Box Score
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd College women's soccer team forced Nova Southeastern University to make a pair of goals with a high degree of difficulty in order earn a tough Sunshine State Conference win at the Turley Athletic Complex on Saturday, 3-0.
The Sharks (7-2-1, 1-1-1 SSC) collected their first win in league play and scored all three of their goals in the first half.
Reserve Kelsey McCusker curled in a 25-yard free kick over a standing wall and Rachael Reid drilled an estimated 35-yard long ball for hard-earned, unconventional NSU scores.
Nova Southeastern's leading scorer, Malin Broberg, also cashed in during the first half.
But the Tritons (3-8, 0-4 SSC) pitched a second-half shutout against the Sharks and EC goalkeeper
Morgan Crescent was admirable in a backup role with four saves in her 45 minutes logged.
Freshman
Mia Whylly broke through the Nova Southeastern back line for a great shot at the goal in the 63rd minute that was saved by Sharks' netminder Michelle Fuerst and the deflection grazed the post.
The Tritons have a week of rest before heading down to Miami Shores to face Barry University on Saturday for a 6 p.m. start.
