WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Eckerd College volleyball team recorded a victory against a nationally ranked opponent on Friday, as the Tritons took a 3-1 win (27-25, 25-15, 21-25, 25-21) over No. 20 Pittsburg State at the Peggy Martin Challenge.
Corrine Stringer had 16 kills and 14 digs for PSU (3-2). But the Gorillas could not overcome a .205 hit percentage for Eckerd, which had 21 more attacks than PSU.
The Tritons took the early momentum in come-from-behind fashion. PSU had two game points in the opening set, but the Tritons rallied to take the next two points and even the set at 24-24.
After the two teams split the next two points, Eckerd got back-to-back kills from Biggs and Chinn to take a 1-0 lead.
The Tritons cruised a 2-0 advantage by hitting .256 in the second set while holding PSU to a .081 clip. Eckerd jumped out to a 15-6 lead, and the Gorillas never cut the margin under eight during the rest of the set.
The teams played a nip-and-tuck third set, with neither team ever leading by more than four points, before freshman setter Madison Burr served an ace to close it out.

MATCH #2 RECAP (Eckerd College vs. #8 Indianapolis)

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Eckerd College volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision (22-25, 13-25, 25-21, 22-25) to No. 8 Indianapolis on Friday at the Peggy Martin Challenge.
The Tritons, who upset No. 20 Pittsburg State earlier in the day, got another solid match from freshman Lindsay Biggs. The Topeka, Kan., product had 16 kills and 11 digs, notching her second double-double of the day.
Ariana Chinn had 10 kills, while Hallie Ward chipped in 11 digs. The Tritons (4-2) also combined for seven total blocks.
Kristina Hefferan had 13 kills for the Greyhounds (5-1). Indianapolis hit .226 overall and had nine service aces.
The Tritons dug themselves in a hole early, as Indianapolis hit .270 in the opening set and won the serving battle in the second frame to take a commanding lead.
But the Tritons battled back in the third set, keyed by five kills and a .364 hit percentage from Biggs.
The Greyhounds, though, rallied in the fourth – taking five of the final six points to close the match.
