Baseball Falls to Lions in SSC Double-Header Finale

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Eckerd College baseball team dropped their final games of the season Sunday afternoon to the Saint Leo Lions at Southard Stadium on the campus of Saint Leo University.  The Lions defeated the Tritons 0-8 in game one, and then edged Eckerd 1-2 in game two.

The Lions scored their first run in the first inning during game one.  Their big inning came in fourth as the Lions were able to scratch five runs across the plate to make it a 0-6 ball game.  They were able to add a run on in the sixth and seventh innings to make their total run count to eight.  Saint Leo connected with 12 hits off the Triton pitching staff, while Eckerd was able to come up with five.  Wess Hollins, Chris Clinton, and Kevin Rea each had a hit, while Joe Dabah collected two.

In game two, Eckerd was able to get a run across the plate after the Lions took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth when Matt Abraham homered to left field to make it a tied ball game.  However, Saint Leo was able to regain the lead that same inning, making it a 1-2 game and earning the victory.

Abraham and Dan Branca picked up two hits each, while Clinton picked up one.

The Tritons conclude their season with a 20-28 overall record and a 3-21 Sunshine State Conference record.
