Softball Falls 2-4 to Spartans

TAMPA, Fla. - The Eckerd softball team fell to the University of Tampa 2-4 Friday night at the UT Softball Field in their Sunshine State Conference series opener.  The Tritons fall to a 15-33-1 overall record, while sporting a 5-17 SSC record.  The Spartans improve to 21-19 overall and 12-10 in the conference.

The Spartans scored the first run of the game on a throwing error committed by the Tritons in the bottom of the first inning. Eckerd would tie the game up the following inning when Kristen Schurr came home off of a wild pitch made by the Tampa pitcher.  Two more runs would be added on by Tampa later on in the fifth inning, making it a 3-1 ball game.  Eckerd would respond with a run of their own in the top of the sixth off of another wild pitch to cut the lead down by one.  After a fielding error made by the Triton defense, the Spartans were able to score two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and striking out the side during Eckerd's at bats, Tampa would win the game, 2-4.

Three Triton players were able to scatter hits off of the Tampa pitching, which came from Schurr, Emma Docking, and Meagan Camp.

The Tritons will conclude their series with Tampa tomorrow afternoon as they finish out their season with double-header action.  First game is set for 1:00 pm.
