Triton Softball Falls to Nova Southeastern, 2-0

Box Score

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd softball team dropped a close game Thursday night as they fell to Sunshine State Conference opponent Nova Southeastern, 2-0, in the opening game of their SSC series.  The Tritons drop to 10-24-1 overall and 2-8 in the SSC, while the Sharks improve to 31-12 overall and 9-4 in the conference.

The Sharks were able to score in the first inning as Jessica Hernandez hit a blooper to right field that plated a runner from second base.  They struck again in the second inning as Noemi Luciani placed a base hit between the left side to bring a runner in to make the score to 2-0.  The Sharks went scoreless for the remainder of the game.  They threatened to put more runs on the board in the top of the seventh inning after leading off with a double to the right field line, but starting pitcher Alex Sasso and the Eckerd defense were able to hold off the Sharks to keep them at a 2-0 lead.

The Tritons were able to put runners on the base with two fielding errors and a batter being hit by the Nova pitcher, but Eckerd was unable to put runners on the board.  The Sharks starting pitcher Lexi Sarradet shut out the Tritons, allowing no hits, one walk, and striking out four batters in seven innings.  Sasso suffered the hard loss for the Tritons, pitching seven innings, giving up eight hits, two runs, walking two batters, while striking out three.

Both teams will return to action tomorrow as they close out the SSC series at the Turley Athletic Complex.  First game is set to start at 11:00 am.
