BABSON PARK, Fla. - The Eckerd softball team traveled over to Webber International University to take on the Warriors in double-header action at Nancy Nichols Field on Saturday, March 6th. The Warriors took game one, 0-3, while the Tritons bounced back to win game two, 10-6.
The Tritons (7-12-1, 1-2 SSC) only had two hits against Webber's hurler Kristen Lefan. Amanda Kolonick's came in the third inning and Kristen Torres had a hit in the seventh. Lefan only surrendered two walks and struck out 14 Eckerd batters. Two of Webber's three runs came from solo homers, and one came from an RBI single.
Mackenzie Dawson suffered the loss, giving up 10 hits, three runs, and striking out one batter.
Eckerd put runs on the board first in the second game, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Webber answered back, scoring five of their own, three of those runs thanks to a homer by Shauna Ward. But the Tritons didn't settle. After being down by two runs going into the top of the third inning, Eckerd was able to plate three runners. Emily Wiemken's double to the outfield was able to plate Alex Sasso and Dawson to give the fans a tied game. An error made by Webber's third baseman was able to bring home Wiemken to give the Tritons a one run advantage.
Eckerd continued to add on to their score in both the fourth and fifth innings. Sasso connected with her first home run of the season against Webber pitcher Kristen Stewart in the top of the fourth. The Tritons scratched three more runs the following inning with Kolonick's RBI base knocker and Torres' two run double.
Logan Rorhbach had a rough outing in the first inning, allowing five runs on four hits and walking two batters, only pitching 0.1 innings. Sasso came in relief, pitching 6.2 innings while only giving up five hits, one run, two walks, and striking out five batters to get her first win of the season.
The Tritons well get a week break, as they get set to take on Flagler College on March 13th in St. Augustine in double-header action. First game is set to start at 1:00 pm.
