Men's Basketball Falls to Rollins in SSC Semifinal

Box Score

FORT LAUDERDALE
, Fla. - The Rollins Tars (24-5) exploded for 45 second half points, to overcome a 15-point second half deficit en route to defeating the Eckerd Tritons (19-9), 72-65, in semifinal action of the 2010 BlueCross and Blue Shield of Florida Sunshine State Conference Championships at Nova Southeastern University's Don Taft Arena. The Tars took advantage of some second-half Eckerd foul trouble, including two critical technical fouls in the half.

Eckerd will now await word on a potential NCAA Tournament bid which fans can view live via NCAA.com's selection show at 9:30pm on Sunday.

The Tritons led for the majority of the first half, keeping a lid on the Tars' two biggest offensive threats, Nick Wolf and Myk Brown, who combined to go 3-for-12 from the field. Eckerd would go on runs of 11-2 and 7-1 to take a pair of 10-point leads before settling for a nine-point, 36-27 lead after a long three-pointer by Jeremy D'Amico with 25 seconds to go in the half.

Zaronn Cann led all scorers in the half, pouring in 14 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the field, including 6-of-7 free throws. Wayne Sears added seven points in the half while Brown led the Tars with 10 points.

In the second half, Eckerd increased its lead to 42-27 with 17:32 after a fastbreak dunk by Lance Kearse. Rollins, however, responded with an 18-7 run, trimming the Tritons' lead to 49-45. The Tritons, then, answered back with a 9-0 run to bulge their lead to 58-45 on a three by Kearse with 9:26 left.

Unfortunately, the Tars had one more run in them than did the Tritons, as Rollins out-scored Eckerd, 27-7, over the final 9:26 of the game. That run included a stretch where Eckerd went without a basket from 4:55 left in the game, up by three, until 31 seconds left, down by six.

Rollins' Wolf, however bottled up in the first half, exploded for 23 of his 27 total points in the second half. The Tars shot 52.4 percent from the field in the half while holding Eckerd to 40.6 percent.
