Men's Tennis Edges West Alabama, 5-4

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - After being victorious in two double matches and three single matches, the Eckerd men's tennis team  defeated the University of West Alabama, 5-4, Monday afternoon at the Turley Athletic Complex.

Ben Maxwell and Adam Hopkins were the winners in No. 1 doubles action for the Tritons (6-9), taking out their competition, 8-6. In the No. 3 slot, Aaron Kleefield and James Walker defeated their opponents, 8-3.

In singles play, Hisa Sato took home the victory in the No. 2 spot, defeating his competition, 7-6, 6-2.  In the No. 3 slot, Hopkins came out strong in his first set, winning 6-3.  He dropped the second set, 2-6, but came back strong to pull a 6-2 win over Benny Delgado Rocha.  The final win for Eckerd came from No. 5 singles player Jon Bonner.  Bonner went into three sets against his opponent.  He dropped his first set, 5-7, but over came the defeat to win the next two sets, 7-6, 6-2.

The Tritons will return to action on April 9th, as they get set to take on conference foe Saint Leo University, which will take place at the Turley Athletic Complex at 3:00 pm.
