Softball Splits With Bucs

Game 1 Box Score

Game 2 Box Score

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - After suffering a 10-0 loss in the first game of today's double-header, the Eckerd softball team was able to defeat the Barry Buccaneers in game two, before Mother Nature had its way, 6-3 in five innings.

Game one was not pretty for the Tritons, as the Bucs belted 12 hits and scored 10 runs, ending the game in five innings.  Barry's starting pitcher Brianna Smith was able to shut out the Tritons, surrendering one hit to the Tritons, which came off the bat of Amanda Kolonick in the third inning off of a bunt single that the speedy outfielder beat out.

Game two was a different story, as the Tritons scored four runs in the first inning, two of which came off of Alex Sasso's homer over the center field fence.  Emma Docking was able to score in the second inning after an error was made by the Barry defense.  Barry was able to make it a two run game in the top of the third inning, scoring two runs to make it a 5-3 ball game with Eckerd in the lead.  Eckerd scored another run in the fourth inning on Kirsten Cox's double to center field that brought home Docking from first base.

Just as Barry finished their at-bats in the fifth inning, Mother Nature brought rain in, making it hard to finish the rest of the game.  With the Tritons having a 6-3 lead, the victory goes to Eckerd, giving them their 10th win of the season, and their second in the Sunshine State Conference.

Sasso earned her second win of the season, pitching five innings and giving up five hits, three runs, two walks, and struck out one batter.  Kolonick and Docking each had two hits in game two.

The Tritons will be back in action Tuesday as they travel over to Lake Wales, Florida to take on NAIA Warner University.  First pitch of the double-header is set for 2:00 pm.
