Joey Cuda spun a gem, tossing eight complete innings of four-hit, shutout ball while striking out a career-high 11 batters as the Eckerd Tritons (7-2) defeated the Southeastern Fire (6-4), 3-1, on Tuesday evening at the Turley Athletic Complex.
Eckerd took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second on a sacrifice fly by
Chris Clinton but could not further take advantage of three Fire errors. The scoreboard would remain unchanged until the bottom of the sixth when
Joe Dabah would plate
Oliver Killoren on a fielder's choice. Eckerd, then would add an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh on a sac fly by Killoren.
Francisco Collazo would come on to record his third save of the season, allowing just one run in the ninth. Kyle Young was saddled with the hard-luck loss for Southeastern.
Eckerd will return to the diamond on Friday, February 26 as it hosts Florida Memorial at 7pm.
