Men's Basketball Continues Hot Shooting in Win Over Florida Memorial

Eckerd-Florida Memorial Box Score

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Eckerd College men's basketball team continued its early-season hot shooting in an 86-64 win over Florida Memorial on Friday at the Jay McCormick Memorial Classic.

Senior center Dale Carn scored 14 points on 7-for-8 shooting, helping Eckerd (3-1) shoot a blistering 59 percent from the field.

Carn was one of three Tritons who scored in double figures. Senior guard John Harper scored 13 points, while senior forward Lance Kearse had 11 points and five rebounds.

Wayne Sears Jr.., had seven points, five rebounds and a game-high six assists.

The Tritons, who shot 60 percent in Tuesday's win over Palm Beach Atlantic, were 5-for-7 (71 percent) from 3-point range.

Matthew Rolle scored a game-high 21 points for the Lions (1-2).

While Eckerd was rolling offensively, the Tritons also held their own defensively – limiting Florida Memorial to 33 percent shooting. The effort helped Eckerd offset a season-high 24 turnovers.

"I never would have thought we could win a game with that many turnovers," said Eckerd head coach Tom Ryan. "We have simply got to handle the ball better. We turned it over in every way possible. But we shot the ball well and had some good efforts defensively, and that was enough today."

After Florida Memorial grabbed an early 15-11 lead in the game's first 5:07, the Tritons took control. Eckerd outscored the Lions 36-13 during the rest of the half, including a 19-1 run at one point.

The Tritons led 47-28 at halftime and never led by less than 15 the rest of the way.

Eckerd will wrap up the two-day tournament at 5 p.m. on Saturday against Assumption.
