FORT LAUDERDALE,
Fla. - Woody Taylor led with 11 points off the bench but the Nova Southeastern Sharks (8-5, 2-2 SSC), on the strength of a 26-of-38 output at the free throw line, defeated the Eckerd Tritons (6-6, 0-3 SSC), 77-64, on Saturday afternoon at the University Center.

After a layup by Eckerd's Adio Faucher gave the Tritons a 7-5 lead in the first frame, the Sharks would go on an 21-7 run, sparked by a layup by Teddy Tassy, to take a 26-14 lead before settling for a nine-point, 37-28 halftime lead.

Eckerd made a run at the Sharks in the second half, as the Tritons went on a 12-0 run to trim NSU's lead to 43-40 with 13:22 to go. After four straight free throws and a layup by the Sharks' Alex Gynes helped increased their lead to 54-43 with just over 10 and a half minutes to play, Eckerd would go on another long run, this time 13-0, to take a 56-54 lead on a layup by Darrien Mack with 6:48 to go.

NSU, however, would take control down the stretch, out-scoring the Tritons 21-10 over that stretch, en route to the 13-point victory.

For the game, NSU out-shot Eckerd 54.8 to 37.5 percent. Eckerd lost despite dominating the glass, 41-26, as it had four players with at least five boards.

John Harper scored nine points while Lewis Lampley and Wayne Sears each added eight points. Gynes lead all players with 23 points.

Eckerd will return to the hardwood on Wednesday, January 13 as it hosts Tampa at 7:30pm at the McArthur Center.
