Men's Basketball Wins Third Straight at Saint Leo

, Fla. - Zaronn Cann scored 19 points to lead the Eckerd Tritons (9-6, 3-3 SSC) past the Saint Leo Lions (8-11, 2-4 SSC), 67-61, on Wednesday night at SLU's Bowman Center.

In the first stanza, a jumper by Jordan Prais gave the Lions a 27-17 lead with 7:40 to go. The Tritons, however, would go on to score 16 unanswered points to close out the half, thanks, in large part, to eight points poured in by Wayne Sears. The run put the Tritons ahead, 33-27, going into halftime.

In the second half, the Tritons expanded their lead to 51-37 on a layup by Cann with 10:48 to go. The Lions would then use a 20-8 run to close the gap to 59-57 with 1:57 to go but Eckerd would go on to hit seven of eight free throws down the stretch to ice the game.

For the game, Eckerd out-shot Saint Leo, 39.3 to 32.8 percent while leading in rebounds, 46-35. Sears added 16 points. SLU's Jordan Prais led all scorers with 22 points.

Eckerd will return to action on Saturday, January 23 as it travels to Boca Raton, Fla. to battle Lynn at 4pm.
