ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd Tritons (5-3) continued their torrid play over the weekend, knocking off the sixth-ranked Grand Valley State Lakers (4-4) (32-30, 25-17, 25-14) before easily defeating the East Stroudsburg Warriors (1-3) (25-22, 25-9, 25-21).
Though the Tritons made quick work of the Lakers, the match was decided in the first set as the teams remained deadlocked until the score was tied, 30-30.
Taylor Whaley, who had seven kills in the match, gave Eckerd a 31-30 lead with a kill before the Lakers sealed their own fate with an attack error.
For the match, Eckerd's defense held the Lakers to a microscoping .088 attack percentage while hitting .220.
Ariana Chinn and
Lydee Benoit paced the Tritons' attack with 12 kills, each, while Rebeccah Rapin led Grand Valley with 10 kills.
Against East Stroudsburg, Coach Courtney Draper was able to give her reserves more playing time and it paid off as
Jill Whitman led all players with 10 kills, no errors, and a stellar .625 attack percentage. Whaley and Regi Silva each tallied seven kills. The Tritons as a whole hit at a .443 clip while holding the Warriors to .092.
Eckerd will return to action on Saturday, September 12 as it hosts Palm Beach Atlantic at 2pm at the McArthur Center.
