BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Eckerd Tritons (22-31, 5-19 SSC) finished the 2009 season with an SSC doubleheader split against the Lynn Fighting Knights (38-16, 14-10 SSC) on Saturday afternoon at Lynn's McCusker Complex. The Tritons fell in game one, 3-2, before prevailing in game two, 6-2.
In game one, Lynn took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second which included an RBI double by Paddy Matera. Eckerd tied the game in the top of the sixth on consecutive run-scoring singles by
Chris Clinton and
Joe Dabah.
The Knights took the lead for good in the bottom of the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Chad Crowe, making it 3-2.
Kevin Rickert earned the win for the Knights after going 7.1 innings while allowing five hits and two runs.
Chris Dvorcsak, who came on in relief of starter
Jay Moroff, took the loss for the Tritons.
In game two, Eckerd got on the board in the top of the third, scoring two runs, one of which coming on an RBI single by Clinton. After Lynn rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth, the Tritons broke the game open in the top of the sixth, scoring four runs with a run-scoring single by
Mike Sinicola proving to be the go-ahead run.
Joey Cuda earned the win after going five innings and allowing two runs and six hits. Tommy Kahnle took the loss for Lynn.
The doubleheader marked the end of the careers of nine seniors for the Tritons, including Sinicola and
Francisco Collazo, finished the game two with two shutout innings in relief of Cuda.
