Eckerd Baseball Drops Two at Rollins

WINTER PARK, Fla. - The Eckerd Tritons (21-29, 4-17 SSC) were swept by the Rollins Tars (25-22, 8-13 SSC) in SSC doubleheader action on Saturday afternoon at Alfond Stadium. Eckerd fell in game one 18-4 before losing tight one in game two, 5-4.

Game one was all Rollins as they held a 6-0 lead going into the fifth inning. Eckerd scored twice in the top of the fifth on a run-scoring single by Matt Heller and an RBI double by Joe Dabah.

Unfortunately, Rollins' offensive onslaught continued as it would go on to score 12 more runs, accounting for the final score.

In game two, the Tritons got off to an excellent start as Chris Clinton led off the game with a solo homerun. After the Tars tied the game in the second, Eckerd regained the lead, 2-1, in the fifth when Clinton scored an unearned run as he used his speed to force a throwing error at third.

The big inning, however, was the bottom of the sixth as Rollins rallied for four runs, including a two-run double by Ryan Luker.

Down 5-2 in the top of the seventh, the Tritons managed a late-inning rally of their own, scoring runs on an RBI groundout by Mike Alvarez and an RBI single by Clinton. Eckerd's rally would fall one run short, however, as Clinton was thrown out at the plate trying to score from second base on a fielding error at third base.

Stephen Hiscock took the win for Rollins while Joey Cuda, who cruised until the sixth, took the loss.

Eckerd will return to action on Tuesday, April 28 as it hosts Southeastern at 7pm. Prior to the game, the Tritons will honor its senior class at the game represents the final home contest of the season for Eckerd.
