WINTER PARK, Fla. - The Rollins Tars (23-22, 6-13 SSC) played long ball and took advantage of an Eckerd defense that committed five errors to defeat the Tritons (21-27, 4-15 SSC) by a score of 6-2 on Friday evening at Alfond Stadium in a game that took a blistering one hour and 52 minutes to complete.
Eckerd held a 2-0 lead after two and a half innings after scoring a run both the second and third innings on a double play and a wild pitch, respectively.
After that, it was all Rollins as the Tars scored six runs across the third and sixth innings, including a two-run homer by Bryan Bennett and a three-run shot by Scott Chase.
Marc Hewett did the rest for the Tars as he went the distance, allowing eight hits and two runs while striking out six.
The same two squads will return to action on Saturday as they battle in SSC doubleheader action beginning at 12pm.
