Men's Basketball Beaten by Delta State

, Fla. - Wayne Sears scored 18 points while Walade Wade led all players with seven rebounds but the Delta State Statesmen (7-3) would come away with the victory, 88-76, over the Eckerd Tritons (5-3) on Monday evening at the University of Tampa's McArthur Center.

In the first half, after Zaronn Cann connected on a free throw to tie the game at 11-11, the Statesmen would go on a 32-15 run to close out the half, putting DSU on track for a 43-26 halftime lead.

In the second half, a jumper by DSU's Jeremie Davis gave them their largest lead of the evening at 62-39 with 12:52 left to play. Although a jumper by Sears sparked the Tritons on a 20-7 run, closing the gap to 69-59, Eckerd would get no further than its 10-point deficit as the Statesmen would go on to coast to the 12-point victory.

For the game, DSU out-shot the Tritons 42.9 percent to 40.4 percent from the field. The Statesmen also out-rebounded Eckerd, 41-39. John Harper and Chris Gray added 11 and 9 points, respectively, for the Tritons. DSU's Joe McCray led all scorers with 23 points.

Eckerd will return to the hardwood on Tuesday as it battles Concordia (N.Y.) at 5:30pm at the Bob Martinez Center.
