Tritons Hit Triple Digits Against Puerto Rico-Bayamon

, Fla. - Zaronn Cann scored 20 points on nine of 12 shooting while grabbing nine rebounds to lead another balanced Eckerd Triton (3-0) attack past the UPR-Bayamon Vaqueros (0-4), 111-70, on Friday evening at the McArthur Center.

13 different Tritons scored in the game while five of them scored at least 12 points.

Eckerd got off to a slow start as the trailed 14-9 with 15:34 to go in the half after a pair of free throws by Michael Gonzalez. After the two teams battled to nine ties in the half, consecutive layups by Cann, in part, helped the Tritons take a 49-43 lead going into halftime.

In the second half, a made jumper by Chris Gray sparked Eckerd on a 33-12 run over the first 10:49 of the second stanza to climb out to an 82-55 lead. With 3:21 to go, a three by VaShawn Taylor put the Tritons over the century mark at 101-67 en route to the easy 41-point win.

For the game, Eckerd shot 58 percent from the field, including 76.7 percent in the second half while Bayamon shot 47 percent. Eckerd also out-rebounded the Vaqueros, 46-15. John Harper added 18 points for the Tritons while Wayne Sears scored 14 points of the bench. Walade Wade registered career highs with 14 points and seven boards while Dale Carn also added 14 points.

Gonzalez and Melvin Rivera each scored 22 points for Bayamon.

Eckerd will return to action on Saturday as it hosts Edward Waters College at 7:30pm at the McArthur Center.
