Women's basketball rolls over Florida Tech for ninth straight win

ST. PETERSBURG -- The Eckerd Tritons women's basketball team picked up its ninth straight win on Saturday at home, cruising to an 84-42 victory over the visiting Florida Tech Panthers.

After two minutes of scoreless action, Emma Egan opened the scoring with a three-point play to give the Tritons an early edge. A steal and finish by Egan quickly made it 5-0 before Lisa Michaelsen answered Florida Tech's first basket with the game's first three-pointer. Savannah Borowicz's layup near the three-minute mark pushed Eckerd into double figure lead at 15-5, and another bucket from Egan shortly after extended the margin to 12. The Panthers scored the final three points of the quarter to trim the margin to 17-8 after 10 minutes. Eckerd held Florida Tech to just 23 percent shooting in the frame.

Back-to-back triples from Ieva Korzane and Jaylen Ostenson opened the second quarter and built a 15-point cushion for the Tritons three minutes in. The teams traded baskets from there, with Florida Tech briefly cutting the deficit to 11, but Ostenson answered with another three at the 2:30 mark to restore Eckerd's 15-point advantage. The margin held through halftime and the Tritons took a 33-18 lead into the break.

The Tritons delivered their most explosive offensive stretch in the third quarter, pouring in 33 points on 12-16 shooting. Eckerd was a perfect 6-6 from beyond the arc in the period, highlighted by Kailyn Terrell's 4-for-4 performance from deep. Terrell scored 15 points in the quarter alone as the Tritons surged to a commanding 66-31 lead entering the fourth. Eckerd continued to shoot efficiently in the final period, connecting on 50 percent from three and outscoring the Panthers 18-11 to complete the 84-42 victory.

Four different Tritons reached double figures in the win, led by Terrell's 20 points on 7-8 shooting. Ostenson was next with 18 points and nine rebounds, while Egan added 12 points to go with four steals. Greta Carollo contributed 11 points off the bench.

With the win, Eckerd improves to 18-4 overall and 13-2 in the SSC. The team will be back in action Wednesday at Florida Southern.
