MELBOURNE, Fla. -- For the second straight week, the Eckerd Tritons softball team has swept the Sunshine State Conference weekly awards.
Ella Coiner was named the league's Player of the Week, while
Brandilyn Reymer earned her second Pitcher of the Week honor in a row.
Coiner was tabbed SSC Player of the Week after her strong showing in Eckerd's three-game sweep at Embry-Riddle. On Friday, she played the hero, capping off a 2-for-4 night with the go-ahead two-run single with two outs in the top of the seventh. The Tritons ended up getting out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom half to hang on for a 5-4 win. Coiner had three runs batted in on Friday.Â
On Saturday, Coiner went 5-for-8 across the two games with two triples and a home run. In the finale, she batted in four runs, which included a three-run homer to push the team's into run-rule territory. Coiner also scored twice in each of the two wins.
Reymer earned her second SSC weekly accolade in a row after picking up a pair of victories on the mound over the weekend. In Friday's game, she allowed just five hits and struck out nine before posting eight strikeouts and zero walks in the series finale. Reymer allowed just one run in the final game.
