Women's soccer earns road win over Christian Brothers

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A pair of goals in the first 15 minutes of action proved to be the difference for the Eckerd women's soccer team on Sunday as they picked up a 2-1 victory over the Christian Brothers Buccaneers.

Less than five minutes into the contest, Morgan Massie notched a goal on the game's first shot off of a double assist from Kylie Drewett and Olivia Ozbolt. The Tritons kept the pressure on, with another pair of attempts at the net coming over the course of the next seven minutes. Moments later in the 15th minute, Eckerd added on to its total following a tally by Nadia Buist, set up by Drewett's second assist of the game. The final 30 minutes of the first half went scoreless and the 2-0 lead remained intact entering intermission. The Tritons out-shot the Bucaneers 5-2 in the opening 45 minutes of action, with four of their shots coming in the first 15 minutes.

The home team picked up their offensive pressure in the second half, sending off nine shots to Eckerd's two. Christian Brothers pulled within one in the 77th minute, but the Tritons defense fended off three other attempts on goal in the half and four shots total in the final 10 minutes of play. Zoe Brasher put up a scoreless first half in net for Eckerd and Madi Winn collected three saves in the second to help maintain the team's lead.

With the win, the Tritons improve to 1-0-1 on the season. The team will visit Flagler on on Wednesday for a 5 p.m. matchup.
