ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- The Eckerd women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season on Wednesday, falling to the Flagler Saints on the road by a score of 3-1.
It was a back and forth start to the contest, with the teams combining for six shots in the opening 20 minutes of action. The Saints got on the board first with a tally in the 20th minute and added onto their lead with another goal 10 minutes later. Flagler held just an 8-7 advantage in shots in the opening frame, but led 2-0 at the break.
Olivia Ozbolt and
Nadia Buist each had a pair of attempts in the half.
Eckerd and Flagler played nearly 25 minutes of scoreless soccer to begin the second, but the Tritons drew closer in the 70th minute after
Jasmine Gallo notched an unassisted goal. The Saints answered with another just moments later and held the 3-1 advantage through to the end. Each team finished with double-digit shot attempts in the game, with Ozbolt and Buist leading the Tritons with three.
Zoe Brasher collected seven saves in net.
With the loss, Eckerd falls to 1-1-1 on the season. The team will welcome Columbus State on Sunday for its home opener.
