Women's soccer earns draw with No. 15 Nova Southeastern

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- The Eckerd Tritons women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with the No. 15 ranked Nova Southeastern Sharks on Saturday.

The Tritons started out aggressive in the contest, sending off the game's first six shot attempts. All six of the team's looks came within the first 15 minutes of the opening half, with the sixth and final look hitting the back of the net after Nadia Buist scored on an assist by Freija Aflenzer. The Sharks proceeded to put up nine shots over the course of the final 30 minutes of the period, with three of those saved by Eckerd's Zoe Brasher. The Tritons led 1-0 at the halftime break.

Eckerd's defense stood strong in the second half, fending off a 13-3 disadvantage in the shots category in the final 45 minutes. The Sharks found the equalizer after one of their four shots attempts in the final five minutes of play went into the goal in the 89th minute. Neither team saw an attempt to close out the game as it concluded in the 1-1 tie.

Brasher anchored the defense for the Tritons with seven saves in net, while Jillian Doerger was the team leader in shots with three.

With the result, Eckerd sits at 1-2-3 on the season and 0-0-2 in SSC play. The team will return home to host Florida Southern on Wednesday.
