ST. PETERSBURG -- The Eckerd Tritons women's soccer team remained undefeated in conference play on Wednesday following a 1-0 victory over the Florida Southern Moccasins at home.
In a physical opening half, the Tritons held a 5-1 advantage in the shots category, seeing two shots in the first 15 minutes of action and three in the final seven minutes. The Mocs' lone attempt was in the 15th minute and was saved by Eckerd's
Zoe Brasher. The two teams took a scoreless tie into the halftime break.
Another defensive battle ensued in the second half, with the Tritons' first attempt at the net coming nearly 25 minutes into the period. The game remained scoreless after Eckerd fended off two Florida Southern opportunities, including a saved penalty kick by Brasher to keep the Mocs off the board.
Ava Costa's look in the 70th minute began a string of three shots within a 10-minute span, which was capped off by the go-ahead goal by
Kailani Casazza in the 80th minute. The Tritons held the Moccasins without a look in the final 10 minutes to hang on for the 1-0 win.Â
Eckerd held a 9-3 advantage in shots in the victory and was led by
Natalie Rudman's three attempts.
Nadia Buist and
Jasmine Gallo were credited with assists on the lone goal in the game and Brasher earned her second shutout on the season in net.
With the win, the Tritons improve to 2-2-3 overall and 1-0-2 in conference play. The team will be back in action next Wednesday at Saint Leo.
