Women's soccer plays to scoreless draw with Barry

ST. PETERSBURG -- The Eckerd Tritons women's soccer team opened conference play on Saturday with a 0-0 tie against the Barry Buccaneers at home.

The two teams combined for five shots in a defensive first half, with Barry notching the first two looks of the game within the first 10 minutes of action. Ava Costa collected the only two attempts for the Tritons, both of which were off target, while Zoe Brasher saved two of the Bucs' three looks at the goal.

The second half was controlled by Eckerd, posting an 8-0 advantage in the shots category. The first four attempts were off the mark before Amy Woodhead's shot in the 75th minute was turned down by the Barry keeper. Ashley Nelson posted a pair of looks at the goal, but neither team could find the back of the net as the game resulted in a scoreless tie. Brasher finished with two saves in the shutout, while Nelson and Costa led the way with two shot attempts. Eight different Tritons registered a shot on the night.

With the result, Eckerd sits at 1-2-2 on the season. The team will hit the road next Saturday to take on Nova Southeastern.
