Tritons’ Rally Falls Short Against Sailfish

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd women's basketball team rallied from a double-digit deficit at halftime to even the score entering the final frame. However, their rally fell short as Palm Beach Atlantic pulled away in the final frame as the Tritons fell 65-57 at the McArthur Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Sailfish got off to a quick start with a 7-0 favor. Eckerd responded to pull within two at 10-8 at the 3:23 mark before PBA took a 14-11 edge at the end of the first. An 8-0 start to the second stanza pushed PBA in front by 11 before Eckerd scored its first point of the frame nearly five minutes, which started a 7-0 run. However, the Sailfish capped the half in a 15-6 run to take a 37-24 lead at intermission.

Palm Beach Atlantic went up by 15 to start the second half, but the Tritons responded with an 11-2 run to pull within six with 2:45 left in the frame. Eckerd ended the third period with eight consecutive points to even the score at 45-45, heading into the final frame. Eckerd's offense slowed to start the fourth period as PBA went on a 10-0 run over the first five minutes.
